Vinistra

People & Wine

exhibition 2008

Vinistra 2008 was appraised the best most successful so far, not only due to a great interest of visitors, exhibitors and media, but also due to a higher quality of the exhibition.

Despite the fact that new rules applied saying that no more than 30% of the total number of entered samples could be awarded, the number of awarded wines remained the same as in 2007 – 12%. The evaluation part of the exhibition was entered by 590 samples of wine, olive oil, brandies and pršut, which was the greatest number ever. More than 20 experts from Italy, Slovenia and Croatia evaluated 470 samples of mostly native Istrian varieties. Also evaluated were 69 samples of olive oil, 40 samples of brandies and 11 samples of pršut. The awards were conferred to the winners on 29 April in the Hotel Diamant in Poreč.

Wine evaluation followed the method “Positive 100 points” prescribed by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), and the winners were awarded the grand gold, gold, silver and bronze medal for wine.

All interested exhibitors, producers and visitors could attend expert lectures by Jasna Čačić on the Winegrowing and Winemaking Sector in Croatia, Jean Yves Huguet on Croatian Reform of the Wine Sector in the EU current status and perspectives.

The visitors of Vinistra could attend guided tasting of awarded Malvasia and Teran wines, tasting of wines coming from the Region of Dubrovnik and Neretva and presented by the “Plavac mali” Association, tasting of collection wines under the expert guidance of Sandi Paris, and, on the last day of the exhibition, tasting of the wine Muškat Ruža Porečka (the Rose of Poreč Muscat).

In 2008, for the first time in Vinistra, in cooperation with the company RadinR and under the patronage of Electrolux Professional the Vinistra Gourmet was inaugurated and immediately recorded an extraordinary interest of the visitors who could taste first-rate culinary achievements demonstrated to the public by the chefs of the most renowned Istrian restaurants.

Vinistra is not a selling exhibition. Its aim is to present wine, olive oil and pršut producers who, apart from making new business contacts, meet the most recent trends and facilities in production and promotion.
